Single joint exercises, as the name suggests, move only a single joint on the same side of the body at the same time, such as your knee, elbow, or shoulder.
The biceps curl machine is a good example of a single joint exercise. To do a biceps curl, grasp the handles of the machine, keeping your elbows on the pad. Starting with your arms nearly straight out, curl the weight by moving your palms up toward your shoulders. Only your elbows move, so this is a single joint exercise.
