Glutamine is a type of amino acid, a building block of protein. While there are many different types of amino acids, glutamine falls into the category of “conditionally essential”. Glutamine for your guts

The first benefit of glutamine has to do with gut permeability, or the level at which particles are able to travel between the cells of your intestines. Normally, the cells are packed tightly, allowing only nutrients to pass through.

If your gut flora is off or if you are consuming a lot of fructose or even ibuprofen, the cells develop gaps between them and bacteria, toxins and even undigested food can pass through. This can lead to all sorts of gut problems with symptoms like diarrhea and abdominal pain. Eating carbohydrates will also restore glycogen, but glutamine can do it without the extra calories.”

Restoring energy in your muscles can also enhance your Insulin Efficiency, meaning your body doesn’t need as much insulin to distribute energy in your body. One study, published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, found that glucose disposal (how fast energy from the bloodstream is absorbed by tissue) was improved by glutamine in combination with carbohydrates by a full 25% two hours after exercise.
