How much time do my muscles need to recover after a strength training (weight lifting) workout?

The typical recovery period for a muscle is at least 48 hours, so you should never work the same muscle 2 days in a row with strength training.

Remember, it’s during the recovery period that your muscles actually get stronger. You need to give them a chance to repair and rebuild the fibers that are broken down by progressive exercise, including strength training.

Your workout starts the muscle strengthening process; your recovery period consolidates it.
